New artworks on our website! ✨💫
These circle colour bombs range from 65cm up to over 120cm diameter, thats without the fringe which average around 30cm extra.

Although we have been calling these ‘mats’ for ages, they are actually works of art to hang on the wall. Traditionally they were used for sleeping and were conical in form, known as ‘ŋaṉmara’ in Yolŋu Matha. Now these flattened ‘mats’ are enjoyed as creative expressions of skill and design, interwoven with traditional culture and embodies thousands of years of history.

Gapuwiyak Culture and Arts Aboriginal Corporation

Lucy and Malarndirri, a reunion between old friends this past week… read on for the full story 👇🏾✨

Senator Malarndirri McCarthy @malarndirri is an old friend of Gapuwiyak Culture and Arts, she actually helped officially open the art centre back in 2009 when she was an NT Minister, alongside clan leader Mr Gawarrin Gumana AO.
Swipe right for #throwback 📸: Malarndirri and Gawarrin surrounded by local clan leaders with their sacred emblems, and community members gathering to support and celebrating the new art centre.

This week, Senator Malarndirri and MP Selena Uibo @selenauibo visited Gapuwiyak to launch a new agreement between Federal, Territory Government and Arnhem Land Progress Association (ALPA) called the ‘East Arnhem Land Youth Model’ or ‘Gungga’yunga Djamarrkuliny’. A program resourcing leaders and clan groups to develop their own programs for engaging the next generations.

Guŋga’yunamirr djamarrkuliny means ‘let’s all care for our children’ - standing for a fabulous initiative that has been going on for a few years, but now in a more official capacity. We look forward to seeing the continuation of the great work done through this program! 🌱

Dhuwal bathi waṉamirr! These fibre creations are Baskets with Handles, or quite literally ‘with arms’!

The coiling techniques used in these baskets were introduced through the missions in the 40’s and 50’s in an attempt to introduce Western concepts of business into community life (👀 keep your eyes peeled for history posts on the mission days soon!). Since the introduction of these new art forms, they’ve taken on a life of their own in Gapuwiyak and other Yolŋu communities.

Here we see bathi waṉamirr in the bush a short walk from the Art Centre, where the pandanus plants can be found — the core material used in the baskets. With Kathy Ninyapuya as she was preparing to boil a new batch of pandanus in the dying process. And at Miliwini’s house where she has her dyed pandanus hanging up to dry.

Finally, you’ll find these bathi waṉamirr ready to go to their new homes on our website! Access here: gapuwiyak.com.au/shop/baskets/

I'm a verified Facebook lottery agent hope y'all are doing fine. So I've been seeing comments, people saying Meta lottery is a scam all because they paid to some people pretending to be Facebook agent. I'd like to assure you that Meta and the FbI are working hard to eliminate those fake Facebook agent. Facebook lottery initiative was away for Meta to pay back to Facebook users, so sad scammers almost ruined the purpose of the initiative So please y'all should try as much as possible to be very much careful to avoid getting scammed by the wrong Facebook agent send a dm to claim your winning prize you might be lucky one..

Meet Janet Garkanyalawuy and her gathu (niece) Rubyanne Guriningu. This is a snapshot of a beautiful moment that represents the passing on of traditional knowledge and practices to the next generation. Yolŋu are so proud when they come in with a young person who has spent some time sitting and learning with them. Janet is proud to have been able to help Rubyanne navigate the process of making art and selling it at the ‘Art & Craft’, as Yolŋu call the Art Centre. At the ‘Art & Craft’, we love being part of these stories and feel so much pride as well! 🙌🏾
